A hands-on Friday morning in the forest for curious kids who learn best outside.
Your child will walk 12 acres of Brandywine Valley hardwoods with us and discover the wild food growing under their feet. They'll learn what a microclimate is by standing in one. They'll identify wild ramps by sight, smell, and taste. They'll harvest with their own hands using sustainable methods — the zig-zag pattern, why we skip flowering plants, and how to read a patch.
Then they'll eat what they picked. We'll talk about the nutrition profile of wild ramps — what makes them different from store-bought garlic and onions, why foragers have prized them for centuries, and how indigenous communities used them.
Every kid goes home with a bag of ramps they harvested themselves, a printed replanting guide, and the kind of dirt-under-the-fingernails knowledge you can't get from a textbook.
Ages 6–14. All experience levels welcome. Parents are welcome to stay and watch or participate.
What to bring: Closed-toe shoes or boots, long pants, a bag for ramps, water bottle, and sunscreen.
What we provide: Harvest tools, field guides, tasting samples, replanting demo, drinking water, and a pop-up restroom.
Sessions run 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Limited to 10 kids per session.
Scholarships available — no kid turned away. Email ryan@junxionfarm.com if cost is a barrier.
